Monarch Larva (FIRST sighted)

Date: 03/29/2016

Number: 1

I saw my first monarch caterpillar today! he was a tiny green caterpillar with a black head underneath one of the milkweed leaves. I brought him inside along with some fresh leaves to give him a better chance of surviving the severe storms expected the next 3 days. there is going to be flooding and possibly hail and tornadoes. my yard does not flood, but it will still be a hard time for tiny caterpillars. I am sure there are more of them outside on the milkweed, but I decided to let the others get along naturally to see how they do. the 3 monarch eggs I brought inside did not hatch. it's like they just kind of shriveled up and disappeared. so I am hesitant to bring any more inside. I just wanted to observe the stages of one of the monarchs. it is very exciting for me since I have never done this before.
