First sighting of the season today at 6pm PST! A female calliope. 3 weeks earlier for females compared to 2015 and 2014 when males arrived mid-April. There have been reports of calliopes along the BC coast 400 km (250 mi) to the west. By local reports, this is one of the earliest calliope sightings in the BC interior on the east side of the Coastal Mountains.
