All Other Signs of Spring

Date: 04/02/2016

Number: 1

This week's chilly weather has cooled all the cheerful songs & romantic interactions of our bluebirds. He had really been courting in brilliant blue flashes throughout the yard. She was somewhat interested in the bird house, he'd selected. I found grass wisps inside the bluebird house so the rent is paid. This morning, I noticed the male red wing blackbirds glumly sharing their perch on the dog kennel with females as the snow came down. Their throaty, gurgling songs & fierce posturing are stilled for the time being, but the ladies have arrived. Even the "spring peepers" & the sandhill cranes, are quiet as the falling snow. Spring's early colors have turned into a montage of black, gray and white patterns. Our bird feeders are busy with an assortment of chickadees, snow birds, finches, titmice, 3 kinds of woodpeckers and cardinals.
