Sightings report image

Number: 1

The Black-Chin returned again. He comes to all feeders throughout the day. The main time I try to watch for him is from 5pm-7:30pm. That is the most times I see him at the feeders. To my surprise he was using the new Aspects Feeder this time and also sitting & taking his time sipping the Sugar Solution. Since he was sitting at the back I could see the purple showing at the bottom of the Black part of his collar. To me the color looks more vibrant on my camera than it does on this site. He seemed to come every 7-10 mins. like clock-work. One time it had been close to 25 mins. with no activity. I had to go into the house to get some medication that was due and I saw him leaving the feeder at the kitchen window with the sound of the "Wing Whirl". So that was where he had been those 25 mins. At one time around 7 pm I was returning to my sitting post & saw a Hummingbird leave the Aspects feeder but no "Wing-Whirl". I was thinking the Ruby-Throat male could have come from the Woody area & was "sneaking" a late drink. I did get to see the BC catching small insects in mid-air near the Woody Vine area which was really cool to see him zig-zag back & forth to catch them & then go back & sit back down on a small vine or twig. Have not seen any females yet.
