Monarch Waystation #271 reports first butterflyweed [Asclepias tuberosa] sprouts on the south side of the house. They were found after weeding the bed, hidden by some Rudbeckia. These are the tallest of the sprouts, so were the first up. One other milkweed sprout was also found, a Swamp milkweed [A. incarnata], about 2 inches tall, in the same bed but closer to the house. In a few more weeks the monarch nursery will be open for business. Welcome spring & welcome monarchs!
