Hummingbird, Nectaring from Flowers

Date: 04/10/2016

Number: 1

At 5:30 pm saw one bird feeding on 1 of the 2 small Salvia plants in the backyard. This was the 1st night I have actually seen flower feeding. There could have been the 2nd Hummer around but because I left all 5 feeder's up instead of taking 3 down & leaving just 2 feeder's up that are very close together I was unable to tell if 2nd male was still around. I was not doing my usual sitting & watching with binoculars from 5:30-7 pm but was just taking a short walk around the yard & just happened to catch this male feeding. Unable to remember name of this Salvia but did purchase it because of it's small size. Approx. 2 ft. tall, Color is Hot pink with white throats. Hummingbird seemed to prefer the erect plant over the one laying on the ground (that had flopped over). Worked all the flower's before he flew away. Pretty sure it was the Black-Chinned Hummer as they are the only ones I have seen since 04/03/16. No display of Territorial activity seen. He was either the same bird (I had seen early at feeder) or at least feeding in "peace". The only evenings I have seen any Territorial activity is when I take some of the feeder's down & just leave the 2 feeder's up that are very close together leaving these as the only sugar water source available. Still not seeing any females, nor any dives or mating activity. Warm today of 84 degrees with wind beginning around 6pm. Calling for thunderstorms & rain during the night.
