Robin (OTHER Observations)

Date: 04/10/2016

Number: 1

I was just standing in the yard & all of the sudden I saw a Robin fly on top of our fence singing the "Tut", "Tut" call. I was probably entruding upon their dinner time. I froze so as not to scare him of but now I realized he was telling me not to come any closer to his mate. He saw me & went on the other side of the fence where the 2nd Robin was on the side-yard in a patch of grass. They were both now on the ground together walking & looking for worms. They went under a bush to look for insects. Their calls were just the "whinny" & "Tut-Tut". About 30 minutes later I saw 1 female Robin taking a bath, then she was scared off by a Starling. She was so excited by his splashing of the water that she hopped back up on the side of the Birdbath & politely waited her turn. She wanted to join the starling so badly that her wings were quivering. She was hesitant to join him but she decided to try it anyway & just got in on the edge of the water rim & splashed a little bit, waited to see how the Starling would react. He did not chase her away so she splashed a little more on the side not to interfere with the Starling's bath. Then her partner the male Robin hopped up on the other side of the Birdbath & the female Robin stopped her bath. The Starling decided it was time to finish his bath & leave. He flew away so the male Robin all the time looking intently at the female Robin both entered the middle of the bath at the same time staring at each other but I am sure they are paired up as they bathed together & for a second I their yellow bills were so close to each other I thought they were going to "kiss" like the Cardinals appear to do sometime, but they did not. It was such a "special" moment. I just wished it had not been so late in the evening as I would have loved to capture that on camera or video but it was too little light for my camera. So sweet! I have been looking to see where they have built s nest but I still think it may be in our neighbor's yard.
