Hummingbird, Ruby-throated (FIRST)

Date: 04/11/2016

Number: 1

1 female ruby-throated hummingbird, the first I've seen this season, sighted nectaring on my coral honeysuckle on the arbor in my backyard [AKA Monarch Waystation #271 @2:35 pm. She saw me and was a little concerned, so nectared at flowers on the further side of the arbor from where I stood on the patio for about 20 seconds then flew off towards the pines across the common area. Earlier today I found out that a long time volunteer where I work had passed away on Saturday and his celebration of life is tonight. He & I always talked about hummingbirds and I forwarded him all the JN updates about them. Today's sighting is now considered his goodbye gift to me and is posted in his memory. RIP, Tom, fly to heaven on hummingbird wings!
