Monarch Adult Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 04/02/2016

Number: 5

Today at 12:20pm I went walking in the pastures. It was sunny, quite breezy, and around 69 degrees F. I saw 2 monarchs flying with one of them resting on the edge of the path for several minutes.

A bit later I saw another monarch flying low over the pasture back and forth in a looking-pattern. He flew right past my son and I, then rested on a tall reed at the edge of the woods for awhile. We could see that he was a male.

I went out walking again from about 1-1:30pm. It was sunny, quite breezy, and about 71 degrees F. I followed 2 egg-laying females for awhile. The second one was nectaring on both pink Showy Primrose flowers and yellow Texas Dandelion flowers ~ she seemed to like the latter best. It reminded me again of how each monarch is a unique individual, often exploring their environment, trying new tastes and choosing their individual preferences. She went on to lay eggs and this is a photo of her on a milkweed plant between two of her favorite flowers. She is a true delight!
