Monarch Adult Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 04/07/2016

Number: 7

I went walking in the pastures from about 12:30-1:30pm watching monarchs and taking photos of milkweed, eggs, and larvae. During that time I saw 4 egg-laying monarch females, one of which also rested on a tree branch for awhile. I also saw a mating pair. In this case I first saw a female looking for milkweed and then a male monarch came flying fast and grabbed her. They mated in the grass for at least 30 minutes. Later that evening I saw a monarch flying past the house and heading for the woods. It was a sunny day with some clouds, a light breeze, and around 78 degrees F. This is a photo of the lovely faded monarch who rested on a tree branch in between laying eggs.
