We went outside to visit our garden on March 18th before we left for a two week spring break and 10 of our 19 bulbs had emerged. When we retuned from spring break the rest of them had emerged and ranged in height from 7 cm - 15 cm.
The soil temperature was around 40 degrees F. The air temperature was around 30 degrees F and it felt cold and windy, but the sun was shining. The sky was very blue and there were some white clouds in the sky. We heard water dripping from the gutter. It snowed right before we visited the garden, then the sun shined, melted some of the snow and there was water trapped in the leaves of our plants. There was snow on the ground too. We found the soil was dry, not moist like in the spring. We saw dead leaves near our plants.
We saw peanut shells and sunflower seeds in the garden, that made us think that chipmunks, birds, or squirrels might be around our garden. We heard an animal sound, but we weren't sure what animal it belonged to, maybe a bird? We did see a bird and we have bird feeders near the garden.
Two yellow daffodils and some purple crocus were blooming in the garden. That is the story of our tulips emerging!
