Spotted Monarch along roadside feeding on some small lavender colored wild flowers. I can say with 100% confidence that it was a monarch.
It looked to be in excellent condition, very vibrant. At the time of the sighting it was sunny, in the mid 50's and there was a cool wind. I have been seeing lots of butterflies so far this spring. I have not seen any painted ladies or red admirals, but I have seen lots of Tiger swallowtails and a few spicebush swallowtails. I have also seen lots of clouded sulphurs and a few others. I didn't have my camera with me to get a pic of the Monarch, unfortunately.
