The picture is not a very great one but it is taken around 11 am at the feeder outside kitchen window. He sat a long time feeding & his feather's were rather wet & ruffled looking from the morning rain. Cool & overcast all day. My main time to observe him was between 7pm-7:37pm with 8 trips to feeder almost every 5 mins. Several times as he leaving the feeder he flew straight down towards the grass. I was puzzled at this behavior until it finally dawned on me he was catching insects(probably the mosquito's). One time he fed from the Saucer(Aspects) feeder then flew down to catch some insects & back up to feed from the Perky-Pet feeder before landing on a nearby branch. My husband told me he saw him feeding on the Hot-Lips Salvia in the front yard (during the same time I was waiting for him to return to feeder in back).I had to bundle up in warm clothing as it was 57 degrees tonight. Even after removing 2 feeders for my observation I saw no Territorial activity. Still no site of any females or any Ruby-Throated Hummingbirds.
