Nord Lake near Aitken, Minnesota

"By March 27 this year the ice on our lake was completely gone. In this mild winter lake ice had never gotten as thick as in some years. The absence of heavy snows contributed to this early date when warm spring winds began. The thin ice crust fractured and piled up in broken chunks against the north shore, driven by southerly winds."
"On Nord Lake we have annual records dating back 40 years of when the ice has gone out. The earliest recorded ice-out is March 22, 2012, and the latest is May 10, 2013. Over these 40 years there has been a lot of variation. Graphing this data gives a median or mid point of April 16. "
