Monarch Adult Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 04/17/2016

Number: 5

Today was an overcast day, around 78 degrees F, with strong gusting winds. Like yesterday I saw monarchs egg-laying, nectaring, and males flying looking for females. I misspoke in my last report: it would be tonight that the 8 inches of rain will come down with powerful storms all night. It was always uncertain when the rains would begin, so I had gathered some larvae yesterday and found more today to collect that were in our bottomland pasture floodplain. This photo is of the same male monarch whose photo was on the April 14 news update. Amazingly, here he is again (11 days later from the original sighting on April 6) and again nectaring on a yellow thistle ~ this one at the end of our driveway. He sports his same torn wings, but clearly is thriving. What a delight to see him again!
