Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 04/25/2016

Number: 1

Male, very bright and healthy. My husband and I both identified the male monarch. We have lots of common milkweed plants up at least 2 feet. We first thought the monarch was laying eggs because it was sitting on the milkweed but after closer look we saw the two spots and knew it was a male. We watched as it searched for a mate. It flew toward two swallowtails and then flew off looking for a female. We have not seen any monarchs today. We have been raising monarchs for 3 years. We are a monarch way station. We have lots of black and tiger swallowtails and have caterpillars on our parsley. We had three swallowtails to overwinter and eclosed on 4/15/16.
We are 100% sure it was a monarch. It was a bright, healthy male. We have lots of butterflies in our yard and have planted host plants for 7 different types of butterflies.
