Monarch Adult Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 04/25/2016

Number: 2

First Gen 1 I've seen this year.

I saw two Monarch adults in succession between 18:30 and 19:00. Both in an area in view of my office window, protected from wind on two sides, by house and a large live oak. Monarchs often settle there at the end of the day.

The first was a worn overwintering generation. Seemed to be looking for nectar, but didn't stay long at any one flower.

The other, the one in the photo, was a new Generation 1 with bright wing scales and no wear. Male. Seemed to be looking for a roost spot. Flushed if I came very close.
