Hummingbird, Nectaring from Flowers

Date: 04/28/2016

Number: 1

I was so upset with my husband about taking all the feeders down the other night when we had the storm. He forgot to put them back up and I thought all of our Hummingbirds left. I had a nice surprise today as I was going out the back door the Ruby-Throated male was making vocal chirps. I froze on the top step to see if I could see where he was. I thought he was going to go to the feeder but he did not. He went to feed from one of the plants I ordered a few wks ago from "Flowers by the Sea". They are still in their Original container as we have not had time to plant them yet. I watched him with delight as he worked all the blooms. He was really putting his beak into the flowers & hovering taking his time to sip up all the nectar. One time it looked like his bill got stuck with "super glue". It was kind of funny. After he left I went to check out the name of that one. It was the Salvia greggii "Cherry Chief" Autumn Sage. I know some of you want to know what plants they are liking. The RT really liked this one. I am glad I bought 2 of them. The lady at FBTS did tell me to not put this plant in the hot afternoon sun but part/sun, and morning sun was best at least for Texas. I had not realized how different the RT & BC feed. But today it brought back memories of being in N.C. where RT is all we had. It was 89.9 Degree's in the shade today & 105.0 Degree's in the Sun already this Season due to our concrete slab. I am changing sugar water every day just so it does not get cloudy.
