Never saw one before. Was on my seed feeder for a minute or two. Female. Had to look it up. I looked up from reading my newspaper on my back deck and noticed a different looking bird on one of my seed feeders about 35 to 40 feet away. I didn't have a camera out but got my binoculars up on it. I had never seen this bird before. It was on the feeder about 30 seconds and flew to a perch over my thistle feeder and then on top of a suet feeder before flying up into the trees. The thistle and suet feeders are only about 20 feet from my seat. I had a very good look through the binoculars. It was EXACTLY as illustrated in my Peterson Field Guide. I had taken note of the yellow around the throat and the white belly. Also the wing bars and noticed yellow under her tail which is not shown in the illustration. If she shows up again, I will try to get a picture. I didn't know she was a rarity but I am positive about the identification. As I'm writing this I am watching 2 male Rose Breasted Grosbeaks on another feeder and 2 Blue Grosbeaks on the ground. Love it!
