Hummingbird, Ruby-throated (FIRST)

Date: 05/03/2016

Number: 2

Our first female arrived back today at her 'usual feeder'. First female today; same day as last year! (Although, last year early May was so cold, we saw her in torpor, sleeping on the feeder.) First male this year arrived on Fri April 22nd, Earth Day - the day he usually arrives, and is still here. By the end of last summer we had several nesting families, so we are excited to see who else might be returning to our woods. Note we are near Great Falls Park, VA, so this is a heavily forested area, with natural water sources and lots of lichen & mosses for hummingbird nest building.
