Hummingbird, Ruby-throated (FIRST)

Date: 05/05/2016

Number: 2

I was looking out of my kitchen window around 6:00 a.m. today (05.05) admiring a male cardinal perching on my fence, just underneath one of feeders. All of sudden the cardinal got irritated a shewed something away. I focused in and had my first sighting of beautiful female Ruby Hummingbird. She was heading for the feeder and was diverted to my other feeder just 6 feet away. She enjoyed a long drink and flew up into the nearby tree to perch.

It seems the wind direction was on the Hummingbirds side today in NJ. In total, I had 4 Ruby Hummingbirds on my feeders, 2 males and 2 females. This all happed within 30 minutes. This is the most I’ve seen for migrants. I hope they reach their home up north. God speed!
