Hummingbird, Nectaring from Flowers
Sightings report image

I don't know about this. Annual blue lobelia is extremely difficult to keep all summer in my area. This hanging basket is a bargain plant I bought thinking I will just replace it later in the summer when the weather gets hot and it dies. Do not know the variety. Some of the newer lobelia are supposed to be easier to keep as they are sterile. Then the question is, if it is sterile will it produce quality nectar? I saw my male hummingbird sample the blossom then fly to the shepard's hook to perch. He wasn't very hungry. Just checking to see if I was doing my work. I will have to watch this plant to see if he returns often to it. He has a lot of choices in this area.
