Hummingbird, Ruby-throated (FIRST)

Date: 05/15/2016

Number: 1

Cool evening (50sF). I've been watching for hummingbirds for a few weeks. Usually I see the first one here around May 5. None have come to the feeders yet, although I think I've heard them several times. This evening when I looked out the window, I saw one flying toward the house. It changed direction and perched on a branch of the Shagbark Hickory tree. Then it turned back and hovered around the Lilac shrub for a few minutes and flew off into the woods. It was too far away to see if it was male or female.
