Robin (Nesting Behavior)

Date: 05/14/2016

Number: 10

I have been observing a robin's nest that they built on my grand children's swing set. One day we observed 3 blue eggs in the nest. Then two days later there was another egg in the nest. Which was very odd! After a few days when we looked into the nest there were four baby hairless robins. As we watched them day after day, we saw that they grew fuzz & then began to get their feathers.
This past Saturday afternoon I was in the kitchen and I heard a commotion with some birds. I looked out & here a large black crow had a baby robin and about 4-5 robins were dive bombing him. I was so sad, that I cried. After a short while I looked into the nest all the baby robins were gone. I never knew that black birds eat baby birds or that robins attack in groups. I always tell my students and grand children every day you can learn something new.
