Bald Eagle

Date: 05/18/2016

Number: 1

I saw a large unfamiliar upright profile on the ground as I approached a large pecan tree near a freshly planted field. I stop and watched for a few seconds and the profile began to move and then launched into flight. I immediately recognized the white head, neck, and tail as a bald eagle. The eagle flew some 400 yards to a tall slash pine. The previous day, I had noticed a dead raccoon under the pecan tree. I found the raccoon to have been moved from under the tree to the edge of the cultivated field, and am assuming this was either a kill or scavenging by the eagle. At this point, I could no longer locate the eagle in the pines, went about my work and returned to the area later with no further sightings of the eagle. Maybe, a sighting tomorrow. I am in awe over this incident.
