I saw this red milkweed beetle (Tetraopes tetraophthalmus) on a milkweed today. He fiercely waved his front legs at me, letting me know that this was HIS milkweed and to stay away. After seeing him and sundry other bugs and spiders on the milkweed plants, I decided to bring in five more monarch larvae to raise safely indoors.
