Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 06/10/2016

Number: 1

I saw my first monarch today, It was more interested in landing on the ground for minerals in my compost pile than the many milkweed plants in my yard that are now 2-3 ft. tall. Hopefully I will get pictures, But monarchs don't like people around and move away quickly. I am happy to see a monarch earlier this year as in 2015 , I saw my first one on 9/26. I'm quite sure it was a Monarch. I captive raised Monarchs last year and am familiar with them, It was large and apparently not ready to lay eggs and may have just wanted to warm up on the dark soil and compost pile. Carl H
