Well summer officially starts in 26 minutes!Feels like it started last week, it' s been hot, hot, hot with dew points in the 70's. The catbirds are nesting in the viburnum. Saw a western king bird last Saturday. The barn swallows have all fledged. Still have ten or twelve humming birds hanging out here. Sharp shined hawk comes everyday to check out the bird feeders. Just heard a cuckoo in the tree next door. Been having to fill the birdbaths two or three times a day. If the water is low the robins will set there and look at me till I come fill it up. Good thing I have a rain barrel. It's fifty gallons and it only takes about a half inch of rain to fill it up.I have great watershed off my roof.Have only seen four monarchs,my milk weed is three and a half feet high and almost in bloom. Also have dill, parsley, and fennel for the black swallowtails. Have seen a few buckeyes as the lot is full of narrow leaf plantain. Next time I do an observation I will be living in a different city,we are moving after thirty years here. Will have to start a whole new garden habitat.
