This open field is filled with milkweed in bloom - and poison ivy and burn hazel ! On a lark, we ventured out to hopefully just SEE ONE monarch, and we did !
She was resting, wings partially opened, on a dried weed stem. When I got close enough to tell it was a "she", she fluttered away, nectaring on the milkweed flowers.
Wings were really good looking, colors were dark, as if she had just emerged from chrysalis. What a nice 4th of July present :)
