Hummingbird, Rufous (FIRST)

Date: 07/05/2016

Number: 2

The broadtails have arrived in early May this year. My feeder goes through 4 cups of nectar in three days. The first 2 Rufous were sighted at the feeder today along with one Calliope. Beautiful orange body and throat markings. I see the Rufous migrating north at this time and will see them again in early Fall migrating south. They have been coming to this sight for 19 years. They are an aggressive species at the feeder against the Broadtails which defend the feeder. The feeder is located near Hwy 119 and Hwy 46 north of Black Hawk CO.
