8:50 pm Dusk, very humid, light breeze & 26c/78f saw an orange butterfly whiz past me as we were walking out to our barn. We get many orange butterflies in our area.....After a chase confirming it was a monarch my husband kept watch as it searched two of our large trees in backyard while I ran inside to grab my Nikon to get a pic. It didnt settle but searched as if looking for an overnight roost spot;in the fall during migration monarchs roost in one of our large backyard trees;same tree & same branches!
The pic I got was the best I could do as it quickly fluttered in a northerly direction & out of view. Photo confirmed male monarch!
This is my 6th sighting since May 30th.
We raised 2 eggs resulting in a male & female in the past 3 days. Currently hoping for mating between the pair.
