Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 07/08/2016

Number: 52

On July 8, refuge volunteers counted 52 monarchs during a 4-hour survey in our official MLMP study site, a 12 acre plot. Surveys are done each Friday, at the same time of day, by the same observers, for the same length of time, at 25 computer-generated, random, 1-meter plots within the study area.

This report is part of a weekly survey were doing using MLMP protocol and reporting system and with the Xerces Society. We began in April and will go thru October, which is our monarch season here.  This is the first time for such surveys on the Stillwater NWR and probably the most extensive Monarch/milkweed survey in Nevada. We are thrilled to add data to the monarch black hole that exists for Nevada!
