I saw a younger monarch (unknown sex) this afternoon, and then this female this evening at the common milkweed and also feeding at an adjacent daylily. Unfortunately, this is the first date I've seen a monarch. I have seen only two so far this spring/summer. I have
seen a red admiral a few times, one sulpher and no eastern tiger
swallowtails, which are usually as frequent as monarchs in years past. I am
so concerned that the late spring storm in Michoacán did greater damage than
anticipated. We still have August, so I will keep searching for the
monarchs.
