Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 07/18/2016

Number: 1

I didn't think to get a photo but I took video of the butterfly on my buddleia bush. Very large butterfly flitting around the bush tehn up & over the roofs and then back. Wasn't positive it was a monarch & not a look-alike, because I've not seen many in person. But came inside & got on web and compared video with a lot of images, so I think I've got it identified as well as I can. Other than the common white butterflies and some earlier (May - June) swallowtail-type butterflies, this is the only large one I have noticed in my yard. Of course I am not in the yard a lot. I have two small milkweed plants planted nearby and one pod growing, so perhaps I'll see more next year.
