Checked Big Lake Farms today, just over a week since the thistles were cut. Saw 4 monarchs there, at least two of them laying eggs......but found no eggs or caterpillars today.
At home, along the roadside cut about July 1, found one first instar caterpillar and one egg. Later, saw an older female laying eggs on the garden milkweed with lots of rest stops; also saw a male for just a minute.
Temps 80s today; higher humidity and temps ahead.
Eggs collected three days ago should hatch in the next day or so.
Flowers are near peak condition (swamp mlkwd, zinnias, liatris).
