I was driving north on US-23, on my way to do a monarch program at Matthaei Botanical gardens. A monarch was flying west, in what appeared to be directional flight, flying fast at car height and crossing the road in front of me. It was not a flight in which it was scanning for milkweed or nectar. This was a low, fast, deliberate and straight flight due west.
