Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 07/31/2016

Number: 1

On July 21 we spotted a chrysalis attached to our siding. On the morning of July 31 it started turning blue, then you could see the developing wings. Just before 2 PM it started to emerge. After it was out of the chrysalis it seemed to be having difficulty getting a grasp on the siding so I let it crawl onto my finger -- and then sat for over an hour while it pumped up its wings and gained strength to fly away -- just as my camera and phone batteries died (after taking over 150 shots). It was last seen on the underside of the patio umbrella when I went inside to recharge, and was gone when I came out.
