The first monarch (female) I have seen this year in Joplin! She was resting on Rudbeckia fulgida in a Monarch Waystation in Cunningham Park created by Chert Glades Chapter, Missouri Master Naturalist. For the past 2 years, this site has seen dozens of monarchs and caterpillars in August and early Sept. Hope this is the first of many sightings. Btw the Waystation is well-stocked with swamp milkweed.
