In walks at big lake and on our back hills, I only saw one monarch today.
This is the lull between generations, I think.
There are lots of eggs hatched sign; lots of tiny holes in monarch leaves.
In places, there are 2nd instar caterpillars.
My captive collection has about five chrysalides, a couple near the J stage, a few 2-4th instars and a few eggs and newly hatched cats.
Flowers are meager in the meadows; the golden rod is a couple of weeks away.
Milkweed is in good shape, but there are a lot of ants in places......
