Monarch Larva Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 08/07/2016

Number: 1

Kelley's Island has a ton of milkweed. Looks like the west coast of MI. On 8-6-16, we saw lots of cabbage whites, clouded sulphurs, 3 giant swt, 4 fritillaries (?). No monarch adults. I may have seen one monarch from a distance but could not get close enough to confirm the ID. I did not check milkweed for larvae.

On South Bass Island on 8-7-16, we saw 3 black swt (including a mating pair), 2 tiger swt, lots of cabbage whites, a red spotted purple, no monarch adults. Noted an older 1st instar monarch at PIB winery near the harbor, and a dead monarch egg at lighthouse waystation. Lighthouse waystation is full of ants.
