At this time last year, I had raised 40 monarchs, besides the ones that survived on their own I thought it was a good year.
This year they say where I live that we are in a moderate to severe drought.
With so many days that have been 90 degrees + and no rain,6 inches below average. I believe it has taken a toll on the monarch population for this area.
I have only raised 17 monarchs so far this year,
and a dozen or so on their own. The older milkweeds are drying up, there are some
younger milkweed sill growing in shaded areas.
I do have three chrysalises that will hatch next week and one larvae that is one week old.
I have noticed that the goldenrod is starting to bloom with other wildflowers that are surviving the heat.
With all the flowers that I water, the migrating butterflies will have plenty to eat. waystation 11286
