Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 08/13/2016

Number: 15

At Friendship Hill National Historic, where I do citizen science for monarch larva monitoring project for the U. of Minnesota monarch lab:
In the acre field where we monitor, the common milkweed was mowed July 5 and is now fresh and newly blooming.

The ones I got close to were females, mostly nectaring on the common milkweed blooms. Two were laying eggs.
Most were females.
There might have been up to 20 monarchs, so 15 is a conservative estimate. We counted them according to the acre quadrants that they were in. Very happy!!
