Monarch Larva Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 08/14/2016

Number: 1

I planted several swamp milkweed plants late last summer and I had a large stand of the milkweed this year. I noticed a branch was bent and about to break off, so I brought it into my house, along with a couple of zinnias, and put it into a vase of water. That was about a week ago. I kept changing the water and the plant did very well (no wilting). Yesterday I noticed, to my great amazement, a Monarch caterpillar along the plant stem, munching on the plant. Not sure if I should leave it inside and keep replenishing pieces of milkweed in the vase or transfer him to the outdoor plants where he will have plenty of leaves to eat but may get eaten by a bird. Help!
