Monarch Larva Sighted

Date: 08/19/2016

Number: 1

I can't believe it..........
While watering some of my Swamp Milkweed today, I spotted a tiny 3/4" larva !
The plants have not done well here this year due to a continuing drought most of the summer. I've had to water them to keep them alive. They're 1/2 the size they were last year, with few leaves and they lost all of their flower buds. I'm amazed that this plant was singled out by a sneaky, adult Monarch but thrilled to have found it. It now resides in my rearing enclosure where I can make sure it has plenty of healthy Common Milkweed leaves to munch on.
