Number: 1
4 Ruby Throat males defending 3 feeders in avid aerial combat. I also have juveniles and at least 2 females visiting during various parts of the day.
I will be adding a fourth feeder tonight and cleaning then refilling the ones up already. (Although no matter the number I have up there always seems to be more hummers than feeders.)
Sunny, high of 85 F, light breezes. Low last night of 72.
Note: Overall this summer it seemed I had fewer hummers than in previous summers--I definitely was not seeing as much nectar consumption. I had a long, cool wet spring (with a late hard freeze) this year--not sure if this meant fewer hummers took up residence here or if my local hummers did not survive their migration. I asked neighbors--there were no new feeders out and one neighbor had discontinued feeding due to health issues.
(Beautiful picture of hummer on lantana on the website...thank you!)
