Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 08/23/2016

Number: 12

Ruby Throats - I have difficulty counting them they fly over the house and around it and into the shrubs and woods so a dozen is my best estimate.

The males appear to have left a week ago, a little earlier than previous years.

Some of the hummies bicker and challenge so I assume those are young males.

They are feeding at the 16 nectar feeders that are up as well as daylilies, begonias and nasturtiums. They also go to all the other blooms, just not as frequently.

The feeders get cleaned and refilled regularly, daily as needed.

We notice that numbers seem way down this year. Normally there are far more hummies here in the summer.
