Monarch Adult Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 08/25/2016

Number: 10

Of late I can see 3 or 4 monarchs at a time in a patch of uncultivated milkweed growing near our pond. I make an observation once or twice a day. We also see individuals almost daily on a butterfly bush near our house. I guess my number would represent an estimate of daily activity. Occasionally two will pair off and fly together in a more or less swirling pattern. I assume that is some kind of mating activity. Of course, except for the occasional time when I see some kind of identifying marking, such as wing damage, I can't tell if I'm seeing the same butterfly. I'm attaching a photo that is somewhat typical of late.
