Beyond the confluence of the Rio Chama and the Rio Gallina there were stands of milkweed and from this point to the take out at Big Eddy, there were spotted nine monarchs either on the milkweed or flying overhead along the river banks. Although milkweed was seen along the river banks starting at mile 12 on our three day Rio Chama river trip, no monarchs were spotted until beyond the confluence. Two were very tattered and worn looking.
