First Monarch sighted this year in our yard. Fresh new male nectaring on Thistles we allow to grow on the fringes of our acre. Our Milkweed did not fare so well, possibly due to the drought. No eggs, larvae or chrysalids spotted; in sharp contrast to the 50 we raised during last year's rainy summer. He is resting now on our Cottonwood. Extremely hot and muggy 25C with a real feel of 33C at 11:20AM. Hard to believe any Monarch would want to migrate today. We are hoping he finds a mate and we get some eggs, as last year we were still rearing on this date. Further observations as I have been slowly making this report include nectaring, resting and possibly patrolling our recovering swamp milkweed (the rains have returned plus 2 tornadoes in our area a couple of days ago). Fingers crossed for larvae for our classmates at school when we return in September.
