Saw the first monarch of the fall migration at Bear Creek Nursery. We did not see any monarchs this spring and very few butterflies in general this spring--unusual.
The nursery grows milkweed just for the monarchs and bronze fennel for the swallowtails. This is the first year, I have seen the milkweed go to seed. Last year, the monarch caterpillars devoured the milkweed and the freeze came before it could flower again.
